Christine Elizabeth Franklin
February 26, 1921 - May 15, 2012
Savannah- Christine Elizabeth "Beth" Franklin, age 91, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Savannah and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. One of Mrs. Franklin's greatest blessings was being the founder of the Lighted Pathway class at Bible Baptist Church. Mrs. Franklin 's first job was working in Sanders Fountain Furniture Store on Broughton Street where she remained until the outbreak of World War II when she began work as a time keeper at Southeastern Shipyard. Marrying in 1944, Mrs. Franklin worked as a playground leader for the City of Savannah. Mrs. Franklin's teaching career included the EOA Headstart Program, Kicklighter School, Georgia Regional, and Hancock Day School. She retired from Hancock in 1983 and traveled extensively with her husband for many years.
Surviving: her husband of 68 years, Carl M. Franklin; daughters and sons-in-law, Julia & Edwin Newton, Joyce English and Jill and Rick Wiggins; a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Ray Nowicki, all of Savannah; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brandau Allen, Julie Jill Knight Dan, Allen English Candi, Ricky Wiggins, and Randy Wiggins; and great-grandchildren, Taylor English, Zachary English, Madison English, Tyler English, and Jack Knight; numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank her loving caregivers, Coastal Home Care and Spanish Oaks Hospice for the excellent care provided to Mrs. Franklin.
